There are plenty of low-carb diets out there, but when it comes to popularity, the keto diet and the Atkins diet come out tops, which has resulted in a lot of heated discussions across the health and wellness industry. This is due to both diets having a lot of similarities, such as being both low in carbs, high in fats. The two, however, are not the same type of diet. The Atkins diet has you reduce your carbohydrate intake at different stages while the ketogenic diet has you reduce the number of carbohydrates at a rapid rate. If you are looking to lose only weight, the Atkins diet is best suited for you but if you are looking for weight loss and over health improvement, the keto diet is the best option. When you are on the keto diet, you are in a state of ketosis which is your body switching metabolic state; however, the Atkins doesn’t change your metabolic state. The only way to know what diet it right for you is by asking yourself, what is it you are trying to achieve. Let’s visit the both of them

Atkins diet The Atkins diet is based on portion control and consuming no more than 20 grams of carbohydrates per day. If possible, you need to get these carbs from vegetable sources such as broccoli, cucumber and green beans. Avoid alcohol, drink as much water as possible and don’t worry about restricting fats. Over time you can lower the number of carbs by 2 grams each week until you reach 10 grams of protein per day. Keep this consistent until you reach your ideal weight and maintain a healthy diet to keep the weight off.

Keto diet Ketosis is the metabolic state your body puts itself into when there is no more glucose left in your body which results in fat being burned off. Your body is emptying your vault of fat and filling it up with ketones which are used as energy, and thus the weight loss begins. There is a lot of food that contains carbohydrates, and when you consume carbs, the body will take those carbs and turn them into glucose as a fuel source. Glucose is what the body needs when carbs are present. But, when you are on the keto diet, you will eat fewer carbs which cause the body alarm system to start ringing and find another source of fuel in which the process of burning fat begins.
When you eat fewer carbs while burning fat, your liver takes fatty acids and turns them into ketones which will be used as the energy source instead of glucose. As you can see even thou, these diets have similarities they are completely different as to how you approach them. Look back to 2018 when a boxer Wilder lost 140lbs in one year just to compete. Both diets work, and if you are looking for health benefits, it is recommended you go with the keto diet. If you want to lose a little weight, the Atkins diet is perfect for you.
